TUCSON, AZ – Working with Embry Riddle Aeronautical University, ARM Aerospace, maker of the Aero-Lift, initiated an annual survey of US Hangars at General Aviation airports within 30 miles of Class B airports. The goal of the study was to determine GA hangar availability, utilization, rents and outlook. Not surprisingly, the survey found that almost all GA T-hangars are filled and there is a long waiting list.
The survey set out to determine how many T-hangars exist in seven regions on the continent along with Hawaii. It also determined how many of the T-hangars have ceilings that are 15’ or higher, which might accommodate one aircraft stored above another on an Aero-Lift. Of the 103 airports that responded, the occupancy rate for T-hangars is approximately 98%. The typical number of people on waiting lists exceeds current hangar inventory by 42%.
Monthly hangar rents at the sample airports range from a low of $129 (in Hawaii) to a high of $565 (in the Southwest), with a national average of $284. Of those surveyed, 86% responded that they anticipate an increase in rental rates in the near future.
Approximately 48% of GA hangars have interior ceiling heights of 15’ or more and each one of those existing structures could double its storage capacity by installing an Aero-Lift. This would cut the monthly rental figure for each aircraft owner in half.
“With the obvious shortage of GA hangar space, long waiting lists, increasing hangar rents and escalating construction costs, it’s clear that creative solutions are required,” said ARM’s Max Anhoury. “Aero-Lift will solve today’s problems as well as tomorrow’s.”
ARM Aerospace provides High Density Hangar (HDH) solutions for individuals and commercial applications. ARM’s solutions allow General Aviation aircraft to be “racked and stacked,” which dramatically increases the number of aircraft that can be accommodated in existing hangars. The Aero-Lift and accessories can accommodate almost any type of single engine GA aircraft or helicopter. ARM Aerospace is headquartered in Tucson, AZ and maintains a presence on the web at www.armaerospace.com. Their phone number is 520.886.7329.
